HEAVEN

Misfit Toy Factory opens this Saturday at Root Division in SF. This one night event features 35+ artists making a variety of small scale works which can be cash and carried away for a mere $40.   John Casey!         Bobby "Boss Cougar" Lukas!     Joey Castor!     Kate Stirr!     Andy Witrak!     Its a hit parade from here to the moon!
I'll be contributing to the factory with my dear friend and frequent collaborator, Ethan Worden. We've dreamt up a project that, in my biased opinion is as beautiful an object as it is a gesture. Come join us for some good times under the Full Cold Moon!

Can you dig it, baby?

BRIAN WOIDA is the greatest. In all honesty and speaking directly from the heart chakra, its that simple- he's the greatest. He's pure love and one of the most fantastic folks I've ever known AND on top of all that, he's a damn good artist.

His most recent body of work, Diggin', Can You Collect Them All?? is near and dear to my rock and roll heart and can be seen at First St. Gallery's Holiday exhibition in Old Town Eureka.

I can dig it. I think we all can.

HOLIDAYLANDIA!!!

Holidayland is adorable, affordable and open for business!
Marion and Roses's Workshop in Old Town has blossomed into a warm and cozy holiday pop up shop featuring affordable crafts and wares made by local artisans. Nothing gives the middle finger to the 1% quite like supporting small businesses, so seriously, get down there! And then go get a frosty one from the Trappist.
The shop will maintain regular hours, T-Sun noon to 7 until Christmas eve.

This year i've contributed some posi ju ju love candles. For less than the cost of a pizza pie, you can take home one of these little gems-

Just add fire and let your love light shine.

SHOTGUN WILLIE AND THE HAND JIVE

I finally finished my collaboration with John Casey just in time for Tall Tales: Collaborative Projects by John Casey & Friends which opens at Swarm Gallery in Oakland on Saturday, October 1st.  The show is a MUST see! John dished out drawings of hands and pants to a fantastic variety of bay area artists and the resulting body of work is an exhibition of those collaborations. Muito bein!

And because of this, I will draw him.

ROCK AND ROLL REDUX

I taught a 3rd/4th grade art class in Walnut Creek this summer. It was exhausting to say the least but also pretty inspiring and hilarious. Children's minds access art in the most beautiful and unapologetically imaginative way. Their aesthetics and intentions aren't questioned, just put onto paper and then they're on to the next thing. They undoubtedly taught me more than I did them.

The whole shebang for parent teacher night

Our final project was Rock and Roll Redux. Everyone drew the name of a real band and one of their albums out of a hat. The students then made album sleeves out of 12" squares of tag board and fake vinyl records out of black tag. There were three rules:
1.) The band name has to be on the album cover
2.) The album name also must be on the album cover
3.) You can listen to the music from that album but you can not look at the original cover art

Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh baby.

The annual di Rosa auction is coming up in October! I'm donating an edition variable from the beard print series. There are gold glitter lyrics from the profoundly heartbreaking Bonnie Bramlett song, Groupie (Superstar) growing from his face.  Legend says the song was written about Eric Clapton but God only knows if that's true or not. God and Bonnie Bramlett.

OTHER MOONS

The nicest thing about having my studio in my house is being near my record collection.
I've been making collages for days to the soundtrack of all the vinyl I've loved since I was a little one, including this gem that was purchased for my mom, by her mom back in 1963.

Just a little bit shady

One of the raddest things about having a musician for a parent are lullabies. I had the most incredible collection of songs sung to me as a little one, most of which went on to build a rock steady love and devotion to singer songwriter hits from the 70's. Curiously, lots of the songs I remember hearing either from my father or the turntable as a kid were about some shady ladies.

Its all part of my rock n' roll fantasy

Why I never filled this out and sent in my ten year old opinions, I'll never really know. Perhaps it was because I was waiting until the moment that the poll would be twenty years old and I could use it as fodder for a Live Art Wednesday event at Levende. So put on your good times shoes and shuffle your booty downtown so we can shuck and jive some over happy hour beers and beautiful drawings made by beautiful Oaklanders!

Sensitive Soundtracks For Big Trucks, Vol. 1

Kanoa Zimmerman

A friend of mine just got the biggest truck i've ever seen. Its a beautiful thing. Its the kind of truck that makes you want to drive to La Paz without stopping while listening to Sweethearts of the Rodeo on heavy rotation. Trucks of this caliber require their own arsenal of sensitive slow jams hanging out in the glove box, which is exactly what I intend to curate today. So if you have a truck and want a copy of Sensitive Soundtracks for Big Trucks, Vol. 1, send me an email with your address and i'll send you one!

Drawin' like a monster!

This year will be my third year drawing in Southern Exposure's Monster Drawing Rally. Its a crazy good time with so many fantastic artists all drawing like little monsters side by side under the prom like twilight of SF's Verde Club. This year I am super stoked to be drawing with three of my best friends in the whole universe, Steuart Pittman, Annie Vought and Andy Witrak. Together we are a heart of gold dream team that should not be missed. Get to the Verde, bring cash for the door, the bar and the art!

I'll be working on a little something like this.......
